Valentino New York + Chipperfield

David Chipperfield is making waves in the fashion world after the long awaited Valentino New York flagship store finally opened in September. The 1,850 sq ft interior is plastered in grey Palladiana Terrazzo, made up of a composite material (Terrazzo) which is poured in place and pre-cast, particularly for wall and floor treatments. Palliadiana Terrazzo, in particular, is more of a mosaic finish where very large chips of stone are set with the joints between slabs infilled with standard terrazzo. It immediately reminded me of one of the sweaters in Alexander Wang’s SS15 Collection – slightly organic but with a hand crafted feel.

The store flows beautifully throughout the different areas, from accessories to womenswear to menswear.  Marble blocks and plinths tie together the concept whilst the sweeping slopes and chunky staircase link the departments
