Designed by Zaha Hadid and Inspiring Winter Wardrobes
On a glorious September afternoon, I visited the Serpentine Sackler Gallery for the first time. After watching a documentary on the life and works of architect Zaha Hadid – which features The Magazine in the primary stages of building – I remained enamoured with the fibreglass structure that juts out from the gallery, which was previously a gunpowder store, quite purposely, and then flows with the landscape.
While many people disapprove of its swooping roof, modelled on the marquee tents that are sometimes erected in Hyde Park, I think the shadows it casts, along with the almost enclaved atmosphere, give the gallery the character that it needs.
Here are some physical fabric representations which I thought correlated with the form and environment of the Serpentine Sackler Gallery.
Elegant materials contrast with heavy shapes and bold fabrics mixed with delicate configurations – the garments encase you but they still move with the body. There’s just some added practicality in the form of Stan Smiths.
